Xtralis VESDA-E aspirating smoke detection systems (VEP, VEU, VLP, VLF, VLI) for data centres, server rooms, cleanrooms, cold storage and high-ceiling warehouses — providing very early warning of fire hours before conventional point detectors. Designed and installed across Kolkata, West Bengal and pan-India.
A VESDA system continuously draws air samples through a network of small-bore pipes with precisely engineered sampling holes — across the protected ceiling, in-rack hot aisles, return-air ducts or cabinet interiors. The air passes through a high-efficiency dust filter into a laser detection chamber that measures particulate concentration with extreme sensitivity. The detector progresses through Alert, Action, Fire-1 and Fire-2 thresholds, signalling the Fire Alarm Control Panel and BMS at each stage — giving facility teams hours of warning to investigate before any conventional detector would respond. Below is the typical VESDA topology Febino Digital deploys for data centres and critical facilities across Kolkata and India.

VESDA (Very Early Smoke Detection Apparatus) is an aspirating smoke detection system from Xtralis (now Honeywell) that continuously samples air through a network of small-bore pipes drilled with sampling holes. The air is drawn back to a central detector with a laser-based or photo-electric chamber that can detect smoke at concentrations 100 to 1000 times lower than conventional point detectors — providing the earliest possible warning of incipient fire, often hours before flame or visible smoke.
VESDA is recommended for high-value, high-availability or critical environments where conventional point smoke detectors are slow, impractical or aesthetically unacceptable: data centres, server rooms, telecom MSCs, cleanrooms (pharma, semiconductor), high-ceiling warehouses, cold storage, museums, heritage buildings, archives, prisons and hospital MRI rooms. It is also ideal for spaces with high airflow such as data hall hot/cold aisles where conventional detectors are diluted.
VESDA-E is the current generation Xtralis platform. VEP (Pro) is the high-performance pipe-network detector for large server rooms and data halls. VEU (Ultimate) is the highest-sensitivity model for the most critical environments. VLP / VLF / VLI are legacy laser-based platforms still widely supported. VLI is the in-cabinet variant for telecom and electrical panels. Febino Digital designs, supplies and installs all variants and recommends the model based on protected volume, sensitivity class (Class A/B/C per EN54-20) and lifecycle cost.
VESDA system cost in Kolkata depends on protected volume, pipe network length, number of sampling holes, detector model (VEP / VEU / VLI) and integration with the fire alarm panel. Typical entry point for a small server room with a single VLI / VEP detector and short pipe network is ₹1.5–3 lakh installed. Mid-size data halls range from ₹5 to 15 lakh. Large mission-critical deployments scale further. Febino Digital provides BOQ-based quotes including ASPIRE pipe-network design after a free site survey.
